Claës Fredric Hornstedt

Claës Fredric Hornstedt is a Naturaliste Swedish, born the February 12th 1758 with Linköping and dead the May 1809 with Helsingfors, Finland.

It makes its studies with Université of Uppsala, in particular near Carl Peter Thunberg (1743-1828). He travels in the north of the Europe, then, at the instigation of Thunberg in 1783 - 1784 with Java while passing by the Cape. He returns in Europe in 1785 with rich person collections of Natural history and in Ethnologie. He remains with the Netherlands, in France and with the Denmark. He obtains a title of doctor in Médecine with Greifswald in Germany in 1786.

Of return in Sweden the following year, it becomes preserving with the royal Académie of sciences of Sweden, to replace Anders Sparrman (1748-1820) left for a forwarding in West Africa. Hornstedt then carries out one of oldest the catalogs of the collections of this institution. But the forwarding of Sparrman turns short and Hornstedt leaves to teach the Natural history with Linköping. In 1796, it enters the Swedish navy and is made prisoner by the Russians during the war opposing to Sweden in Russia. He then becomes chief consultant of the Russian hospital of strong Sveaborg. Anders Jahan Retzius (1742-1821) dedicates to him the Hornstedtia .
