Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword is the second extension of Civilization IV . It left on July 20th, 2007 to France. This play belongs to the series Civilization .
New Concepts
Business firms
The business firms, which arrive late in the play, are similar to the religions: they are diffused throughout the world. The player can found business firms (as of the discovery of technology Business firm, but each business firm asks for a particular technology) which consumes resources but which, in exchange, brings advantages to the cities which accommodate them. They can thus provide more resources, of trade, production or of food. However, the cities which accommodate the business firms must pay a tax of maintenance.
A business firm can be founded only in one city which with the essential resource to make it function.
The famous characters will have from now on the capacity to create in a city the head office of a business firm, as the famous prophets for the wonders in a Holy City do it. The city which accommodates the head office of a business firm earns money on behalf of all the cities which accommodate this same company. The player can also block a foreign business firm by adopting the Mercantilisme doctrines, and block his own business firms by adopting the Nation doctrines.

Espionage
Espionage takes more importance, comparable with that of the trade, research or of the culture (there is a new screen especially for espionage, as finances and the conditions of victories). From now on, the player can devote part of his income for espionage, as one could already do it for research and the culture. Progressively of the part, the player gains points to carry out passive espionage or missions of espionage.
Famous Spies can from now on be born in the cities. They can start a golden age, build a single building (Scotland Yard) or carry out a super-mission, which will give a significant advantage to the player in points of espionage (a little similar to the famous merchants). These Famous Spies have the capacity to be invisible with all the units, including enemy spies.
Espionage is available earlier in the play thanks to a unit of spy resembling a ninja.
