Civil war of Macedonia

The Civil war of Macedonia (February-March 2001) was started by the insurrection of Albanian UCK , which asserted the autonomy of the areas albanophones located at the west of the country. The army subdued the rebellion, but the conflict was regulated thanks to the mediation of NATO. The Accord of Ohrid granted more political power and autonomy to the albanophones. N the other hand those gave up their separatist claims and were committed recognizing the institutions of the country. The UCK was disarmed and returned its weapons with NATO. The first elections which followed the agreement were the legislative ones of 2002, which saw the victory of the parties Macedonians and Albanian antinationalists.
