Civadière
The civadière is a square veil of before existing on old the Voilier S.
It is a small square sail, gréée under the mast of bowsprit. Its Vergue names yard of civadière . In the prolongation of the bowsprit forwards one finds a Bout-dehors or jib boom , under which is gréée another called similar sail but the smaller sprit-topsail .
The Foc S (triangular veils of stay) replaced this type of veil, which however will be preserved like complement in certain marines until the beginning of the XIXe century.
Origin
The sail already present among the Greeks and Romans was called dolonic .
