Citrus
Citrus is the name of a kind of Plante S of the hot countries of the family of the Rutacées, gathering Arbre S and Arbuste S, of which several species are cultivated for their Fruit S, the Agrume S.
General characteristics
The species of the kind Citrus are trees or shrubs, with generally simple and persistent sheets. Certain species carry spines axillaires. The petiole of the sheets is often winged. The flowers, grouped in small bunches, sometimes solitary, have a formed corolla from 4 to 5 generally white petals. Cheesecloths, very many, are often welded in beams by their nets.
The fruit, very characteristic, is a particular bay, wrapped of a bark sometimes very thick, the peel, and formed by the meeting from 10 to 15 carpelles, forming as many “sections” whose pulp, formed of fleshy hairs, often more or less acid and is sweetened or bitter.
The sheets and the flowers carry glands producing a Huile essential with characteristic odor suave.

The species of the Citrus kind are originating in Asia South-east and were spread by the culture in all the tropical and subtropical areas of the sphere. It does not seem that they were known in the Mediterranean basin at the time Roman.
