The Citroen Xantia is a type of Automobile of average range, manufactured with Rennes, produced with 1.216.734 specimens between March 1993 and October 2001.

It replaces BX by giving up the mono-brush of windshield wiper, by keeping its Hydropneumatic suspension and by improving the completion. It also offers on certain versions the hydractive suspension of the XM, in its version “Hydractive 2” and is equipped with the axle postpones autodirectionnel like ZX. Drawn by Bertone, it is one “two volumes and going half” with engines from 1.600 to 2.100 cm 3 (and even 2.946 in version V6).

Evolution

December 1992: presentation with the press.

March 1993: sales launch of the truck 5 doors. It is then available in three completions (X, SX and VSX) and three motorizations gasoline (1.6i - 89ch; 1.8i - 103ch; 2.0i - 123ch). There exists also a specific model 16V, equipped with the 2.0i 16V of 150ch, borrowed from ZX.

June 1993: diesel launching of the motorizations (1.9D - 71ch; 1.9TD - 92ch).

July 1993 (millesism 1994): appearance of the 2.0i 16V - 150ch. A l' exception of this last and the 1.6i, all the motorizations are from now on available in automatic transmission.

December 1993: it is equipped with a sphere SC-MAC, preventing the depression of the suspension at the time of prolonged stops. Appearance of the Exclusive top-of-the-range completion.

July 1994 (millesism 1995): after one year of manufacture, the rafters migrate of the cap on the grill, it making resemble more his/her big sister, the XM.

December 1994: the Activa version equipped with the new system anti Roulis SC-CAR enabling him appears “to transfer perfectly flat” bearing to ten the number of embarked spheres. This specific model is equipped with the 2.0 Turbo CT of 150ch borrowed from the XM and equipped with specific tires manufactured by Michelin.

July 1995 (year 1996): appearance of the station-wagon, a length of 4650 Misters Beaucoup of change in the motorizations: appearance of the engine 1.8i 16V - 112ch, of the 2.0i 16V - 135ch which replaces that of 150ch de even rolled, finally appearance of the 2.1TD - 110ch.

January 1997: appearance of the V6 3.0L 24 valves - 194ch which equips the completions Activa and Exclusive.

December 1997: restylage important . The large bar of maintenance on the instrument panel on the side of the front passenger is replaced by the momentary airbag. The front face is also redrawn and the rear lights pass from reds and blacks to reds and white. The 1.6i is replaced by a deflated version of the 1.8i (90ch), but having more couple.

October 1998: appearance of the 2.0HDI - 110ch. La Xantia is the first model of the group PSA to be profited from this new generation of diesel engine with direct injection. The engine 2.1TD of the same power remains still a few months with the catalog parallel to the HDI.

June 1999: appearance of the 2.0HDI - 90ch to replace the 1.9TD. Stop of the 2.1TD.

March 2001: simplification of the range, with only one completion Tendency equipped well, and three motorizations (1.8i 16V - 112ch; 2.0HDI - 90ch; 2.0HDI - 110ch).

October 2002: end of marketing in France.

Its replacing is the C5.

Since 2001, it carries out one second life in Iran, via an assembly of CKD in the manufacturer Saipa.
