Citral
The citral (or lemonal ) is the name given to two Isomère S of empirical formula C10H16O. The two components are Diastéréoisomère S: the isomer trans is known under the name of géranial or citral A. the isomer cis is known under the name of néral or citral B.
The citral is the constituent major one of the oil of Citronnelle and another plants of the kind Cymbopogon . It is also present in the oil S of Verveine, orange or Citron.
The géranial has a very strong odor of Citron, the néral has a softer and less strong odor. The citrals are thus aromatic components used in Parfumerie for their odors of Citron. They are also used as flavors and to enrich the Huile by Citron.
The citrals are also used in the synthesis of the Vitamine has, of the Ionone and the Methylionone.
