Citizens for Europe
Citoyens for Europe is a program of the European Union to help to fill the gap between the citizens and the European Union. The old program expires in 2006. The European commission has the adopted on April 6th, 2005 and the proposal and for a new program " Citizens for Europe" for the period going from January 1st, 2007 to December 31st, 2013. This program must provide to the Union instruments to promote the European citizenship, to put the citizens at the center and to offer the occasion to them to completely ensure their responsibility as a Citoyen for the European Union.
The program over the period 2007 - 2013 is articulated around three axes:
- “Of the active citizens for Europe” implies the citizens directly, that it is through the activities of twinning of the cities or other types of projects of citizens.

“an active civil society for Europe” aims at the organizations of the civil society to the Européen level, through, on the one hand, a support structural on the basis of their work program, and on the other hand, a support for transnational projects.

“Together for Europe” supports events with high visibility, studies and tools of information, being addressed to possible public the broadest through the borders, which will make Europe more tangible for its citizens.
The proposal affirms that mutual comprehension, the solidarity and the feeling of membership in Europe are indeed the bases of the participation of the citizens.
By their decision the the European Parliament and the Conseil of the European Union consider that the statute of citizen of the Union should be the fundamental statute of the nationals of the Member States.
The budget suggested for this program, over the period 2007-2013 is of 235 million euros (€).
