History
The project of a residence for students of the whole world is initiated in 1920, in the pacifist context of the Entre-deux wars, by André Honnorat, Minister for the State education, which will devote thirty years of its life to him. It receives the support of Emile Deutsch of Meurthe, a patron and an Alsatian industrialist . Its first residence for students, baptized today Deutsch Foundation of Meurthe, in homage to its memory, opens its doors with the re-entry 1925. It is registered with the inventory of the historic buildings since 1998.
Well quickly, other houses come to supplement it, financed by patrons, industrialists and foreign governments: the Foundation Biermans-Lapôtre, the House of the Canadian students, the College of Spain, the House of Japan… the day before the Second world war, it counts already 19 residences, in the center of which the International Maison dominates, built thanks to the contest of John Rockefeller Jr. The poet Edmond Haraucourt also bequeaths a residence to him on the island of Bréhat, with broad of the Brittany, where the students can always take holidays.
After the war, work begins again and a new series of constructions is initiated. Of 1948 with 1969, seventeen new houses open their doors. At the beginning of the 21e century, its offer is supplemented by two residences out the walls, in the 19 {{E}} district of Paris. Most recent, the residence Quay of the Loire, was inaugurated in 2007.
