Cisse
The Cisse is a French Rivière, affluent of Right Bank of the the Loire.
It is born in Loir-et-Cher, in Beauce Blésoise (small Beauce), close to Pontijou. Its length is of 81 km. It separates in two parts with Chouzy-on-Cisse. A first arm is thrown in the Loire close to this commune. The other arm joined the Loire with Pocé-on-Cisse close to Vouvray in Indre-et-Loire.
The name " Cisse" can have several origins:
- most probable: Latin cista (wicker),
- the whole of the main forest of Marchenoir and the surrounding plains belonged, several centuries ago, with the monastic order of Citeaux, known as Cistercien order. It is possible that the word " Cisse" derives from the word " Sixtre" which east can be a contraction of " Cistercien" ,
- Cisse is a river " scissia" , divided, separated into two.
The course of Cisse
The tectonic dome of Marchenoir is, in its south-eastern part, at the origin of the catchment of Cisse, tributary area of the Loire. In the south, its water loses in the Karstiques networks underground and resurgent at the base of limestone in two principal discharge system, close to Pontijou, the source of Wood Flaring (Cisse) and the source of the Marsh of Maves (Sixtre), from which the course of Cisse becomes perennial.Sixtre occurs in the south of Marchenoir. After having traversed a few kilometers, it disappears with the Madeleine-Villefrouin and reappears 8,5 km further in the marshes of Maves. She throws herself in Cisse in the western south of Pontijou.
In the north of Saint-Bohaire, Cisse receives water of Cisse Landaise.
With Chouzy-on-Cisse, it divides. A part is thrown in the the Loire and the other continues towards Onzain.
She receives water of the brook of Mesland to Limeray, of Ramberge with Pocé-on-Cisse and Brenne a few kilometers before throwing herself in the Loire downstream from Vouvray with the Nozzle of Cisse.
