Ciro Alegría
Ciro Alegría (1909 - 1967) is a Journaliste, Politician and writer Péruvien.
Biography
Born with Quilca (Peru), he discovers the Peruvian Indians and the difficulties of their daily life. The comprehension of their oppression is the subject of its novels. He studies at the University of Trujillo and briefly works as journalist for the daily newspaper El Norte .
In 1930 Alegría joined the American popular revolutionary alliance, of which the goal is a social reform and the improvement of the Indian condition. This adhesion is worth the expulsion of the university to him. He is imprisoned several times for his political activities before being exiled with the Chile in 1934.
It remains in exile in Chile and also with the the United States until in 1948. He teaches then at the university of Puerto Rico and written on the cuban revolution during his stay. Its most known novel, Vaste is the World (1941) or El mundo be ancho there ajeno , obtains the price of the Latin-American Novel in 1941 and gives him an international recognition. This book is initially published in the United States and was reprinted many times in various languages.
Alegría goes back to Peru in 1957. It joined the party of President Fernando Belaúnde Terry and is elected with the House of Commons in 1963. He dies suddenly in Trujillo the February 17th 1967. After her death, its widow Dora Varona publishes many tests and reports which he wrote for various newspapers.
