Circumduction

The term circumduction is an action; rotation movement for the body or a member around a fixed point, a cone whose top is at the point of fastener (articulation). The basic circle is described by the end.

Borrowed Latin circumductio , derived from circumducere , “to lead around, lead in circle”.

Exemple: Movement by which the arm draws a circle, the shoulder remaining motionless.

Circumduction of the shoulder (association of the various movements of the shoulder):

  • Articulation scapulo-humérale

sagittal Axis: Abduction, Adduction.
vertical Axis: internal rotation, external rotation.
transverse Axis: antépulsion, rétropulsion.
  • Articulation girdles scapular/thorax

rise, lowering.
rétropulsion, antépulsion.
front rotation, back rotation.
  • Movement of bell scapula.
