Circuit of Kyalami
The circuit of Kyalami is a road circuit of race, located in the province of Gauteng, in the North of Johannesburg in South Africa.
It was brought into service in 1962. Used for the automobile Grand Prix of South Africa and length 4,104 km, it was one of the fastest circuits of the season. Located on a plate at more than 1500 m, it caused problems of carburation to the single-seaters and made the good share with the turbo-compressed engine cars.
In 1986, the Grand Prix of South Africa is withdrawn from the calendar following international sanctions due to Apartheid. When the circuit was recalled with beginning of the year 90 due to town planning, the portions Crowthorne Corner , Barbeque Bend and Jukskei Sweep were removed or strongly modified. The layout was slightly lengthened to 4,261 km, but that Ci was slower and sinuous.
Formula 1 gave up the circuit rebuilt in 1993 after only two races (and a bankruptcy on behalf of the promoter). The circuit was also used for the Championships of the world of Superbike of 1998 with 2002.
These last years, the sector surrounding the circuit developed in residential and commercial suburbs of Johannesburg.
