Ciney

Ciney (in Walloon Movies ) is a French-speaking city of Belgium located in Walloon region in the Province of Namur.

Capital of the Condroz, it has a population of almost 15  000 inhabitants (Cinaciens) and is located at approximately 95  km in the south-east of Brussels.

History

Ciney was one of the 23 Bonnes Cities of the Principauté of Liege. It was also mixed with the Guerre with the cow.

August 26th, 2006, Ciney celebrated its millenium.

Beer

Ciney is a brewery center. The beer of Ciney is famous. It is declined in fair version , brown (created in 1978) or special (created in 1986). These beers in the beginning were brewed by the brewery Demarche . They are it now by the brewery Alken-Maes , of the Province of Antwerp. the creator of this beer is Roger Demarche, father of Christian and Jacqueline Demarche.

Breeding

Ciney lodges a center of Zootechnie, which holds in particular the herd-book (genealogical register) of the bovine race Belgian White-blue . Moreover, its market with cattle is the larger second of Europe after Sancoins .

Schools

In Ciney there are two Catholic schools (Saint-Joseph and Providence), an Athenaeum (www.arciney.be), a provincial school of agriculture and sciences (St-Quentin). Like some small nursery schools and primary, in particular communal.

domanial Natural reserve of Marie Mouchon

Exceptional site, located at the neighborhoods of the Village of Chapois. Composed of a whole of old Meadows of mowing, low-marshes and solid masses shrubby, the Natural reserve of Marie Mouchon is a single place, concealing a fauna and a Flore of large a Biodiversité. Proposed with the European Community like site Natura 2000, management is currently entrusted by it to the Walloon region.
