Cinematograph

The cinematograph (of the Greek κίνημα kínēma , “movement” and γράφειν gráphein , “to write”) is the name given in 1895 to the apparatus of the brothers Lumière which was at the same time Caméra of catch of sight and projector of cinema.

The name had been borrowed from the patent of Leon Bouly deposited in 1892, contrary to the more commercial denomination suggested by their Antoine father, namely the “Domitor”.

Their machine uses the same perforated film that Thomas Edison and comprises in more one system of drive with Maltese cross to temporarily stabilize the image vis-a-vis the window of projection.
