Cinema underground
The cinema underground is current cinematographic American of avant-garde, born between 1959 and 1962.
The movement opens out between 1962 and 1969. At the end of the the Sixties, the organizers decide to pass to the Archivage by opening the Anthology Film Files of New York. This movement is contemporary French New wave and Free cinema English, but was more radical, experimental.

Confusion
The term is sometimes also used in connection with cinema close to the Culture underground in general. However, it is necessary to take care not to confuse both.
