Cigné

Cigné is old a common French, located in the department of the Mayenne and the area Pays of the Loire. Ambrières-the-Valleys absorbs Cigné and the Hedge-Traversaine in 1972. the Hedge-Traversaine becomes again common in 1986.

Geography

The commune is located between Mayenne, which limit it to the East, and the Game preserve which it reaches with its North-western point. It is located at the northern limit of the department and of 1674 with 1836 had Placé, Lignières and Croulardière. The first two places were allotted to Ambrières-the-Valleys and Lignières with the Pas which had in compensation Gerbeux, Mériais and Breil.

Cigné is at a distance of 3 km of Ambrières-the-Valleys, of 14 km Mayenne and 45 km Laval

History

Middle Ages

In 989, Robert of Blois concedes rights in the moors of Wallow to its restored abbey of Evron. But the monks, who did not found priory, were satisfied to allot the incomes, which they had in Cigné, with their prior of Bern. They did not have the patronage of the church, since Henri II of England confirmed, in the middle of, the attribution made with the Abbaye of Lonlay. As of, the seignery of parish was attached to the ground of Torcé. But in 1472, at the time of a division, one allotted the manor and the ground of Torcé to Pierre of Bailleul, husband of Jeanne de Torcé (known as the Young person ) and the parochial seignery with Rene de Sallaines, who attached it to his ground of the Hedge. At the time of the War of Hundred-Years, under the reign of Jean II the Good, a parishioner of Cigné, named Jean Duchemin, passed to the party of English and saw its good confiscated. The parish paid, in January 1434 with the garrison, English of Mayenne, a Appatis.

Old Mode

In 1606, Michel de Montreuil, lord of Torcé, returning consent with Rene de Sallaines, lord of the Hedge, his suzerain, allotted the right of foundation in the church of Cigné. There be claim and lawsuit, then, the January 20th 1609, award delivered by Jean de Mégaudais, priest of Charné (Ernée), recognizing with the lord of Torcé “ prerogatives, precedences and dignities in the church and in the condition of returning them by consent to the lord of the Hedge ”. The September 11th 1614, François of the Stork, then lord of Torcé, obtained from the judge of Mayenne to put in the church one liter armoriée at its weapons. Having protested, Rene de Sallaines was beaten and exceeded in the church even by people of sound rivetted, so much so that he died about it the May 26th 1616. It was buried in the chanceau, very close to the furnace bridge. Louise Achard, her widow, reprant the lawsuit and carry it in Parliament, where he was pronounced in his favor the July 10th 1627. Charles de Lonlay, lord of Corbelière, and Pierre de Logé, sior of Cigné, were also condemned to withdraw their bench of the chorus of the church. Of 1706 with 1708, the Dysentery évit: “ one amenoit deaths with cart and harnois, others, of through on a horse; one entroit even not with the church ”. But, it is in 1709, that the winter put the roof at misery: “ the cold began the vigil of the Kings, and so excessive during five to six days that one in was forever seen parail; not only the cider glaçoit in the cups, but also the wine, even jusques with the brandy ”. Louis XIV imposed a tax of a ground per book of income, “ differently more half or for better saying all the people would have pery by the hunger, and he died still well about it ”.

In 1762, the competitions between many the gentilhommes of the parish stopped after Francoise de Logé, lady of the Hedge, widow of Alexandre-Rene de Vaucelles, lord of Ravigny had acquired the ground and the manor of Torcé, which removed all the causes of disputes. New epidemics in 1772 and 1786 obliges intendant of Turns with envoy Mr. Autin, doctor, which submitted a report/ratio (the September 20th 1786) “ on the disease which reigns in Cigné and on another, much longer, which had afflicted the canton, five miles with the round around Lassay

Revolutionary period

The book of 1789 request of the prices for the best plowmen, soldiers of the militia, and those which rendered service to the community; establishment of schools where they do not exist; safeguards for the municipal officers. The September 28th 1793, one burned on the place of the markets, with Ambrières-the-Valleys, 8 bundles of feudal titles of the seigniory of Cigné. Since 1795, the troops of Louis de Frotté often appeared in Cigné. The 21 brumaire year IV, 300 to 400 men spent the night there, requisitioning vivres and making dismount the cars. The chiefs, obeyed and respected, prevented any plundering and appeared provided with gold and money. Towards the April 15th 1799, the chouans seize the national agents Louis Bonneau, Jean-Baptiste Héricé and Jean-Baptiste Gallery and shoots them with the mill of Vallette.

Cigné at the XXème century and Today

In 1906, the inventory took place on Saturday, February 10. It is in 1972, that Cigné is attached administratively to Ambrières-the-Valleys.
