Cieszyn

Cieszyn is a city of the South of the Poland. The city is located on the Olza and belonged to the Voïvodie of Silesia since 1999. In the past Cieszyn was located in the voïvodie of Bielsko-Biala (1975-1998). The city is the capital of the historical under-area of Silesia de Cieszyn, and in the center of Eurorégion “Śląsk Cieszyński - Tesinske Slezko” (Silesia de Cieszyn).

History

The city was the theater of the signature of a Peace treaty between Austria and Prussia on May 13rd, 1779. This Traité of Teschen put an end to the War of succession of Bavaria. France and Russia were guarantors of this peace treaty.

Duchy attached to Habsbourgs Austro-Hungarians demolished at the time of the First World War, the city is coveted by the governments of its two majority, Czech and Polish populations. This tension will degenerate at the point to lead to a partition in 1920 of the city on the layout of the Olza river. Poland will invade in 1938 the Czech part, but after the second world war the border between Czech Republic and Poland will be restored on this same layout.

Structure

Cieszyn has one of the most interesting architectures of Silesia because one finds the Romance style as much there with the church of St-Nicolas of the 11th century as the Gothic style with the church of Marie-madeleine of the 13th century. Other attractions are the tower of the Piast 14th century with the Great Place ( Rynek ) with old middle-class houses.

Cieszyn of today

Located on the Czech border polono- , Cieszyn collaborates on several projects with his/her city-sister Český Těšín located on the other side of the border. The city is also an important tourist center seen its situation in the Silesian mountains of Beskidy. The proximity of the two important industrial centers of Katowice and Ostrava encourages a rapid economic development and minimizes the Chômage.

The proximity of the international airports of Ostrava, Katowice and Cracow also makes the city easy of access since the not-frontier countries.
