Etymology
The name of Ciergnon would find its origin in the Latin name Serenius , a Roman lord who would have made there build his villa.
History
The village of Ciergnon is very known in Belgium for its castle which offers a unspoilable view on all the area and which is visible by far. This field is bought in 1840 by the king of the Belgians Léopold Ier at the request of his wife the queen Louise-Marie. It made there build a hunting lodge with a terrace-view-point. Their son Léopold II request with the architect Alphonse Balat to transform the building into a castle. In 1903, it bequeaths it to the royal Donation with the proviso of leaving it at disposal of the Belgian royal family. All its successors were conquered by the beauty of the place and spent many moments of quietude there. During the Second world war, princes Baudouin and Albert lived several months there, far from the soldiers Nazis who supervised their father Léopold III. In 1960, the king Baudouin Ier presents to it his been engaged Fabiola de Mora there Aragón to the Belgians. More close to us, the castle of Ciergnon is the framework of other happy events, like the 60 years of the king Albert II in 1994 or the baptisms of the princess Elisabeth, of princes Gabriel and Emmanuel in the vault of the field restored by the queen Paola.
