Ciconiidae

Of ciconiidés (or Ciconiidae ) traditionally includes/understands the Cigogne S and related species (tantalum S, Bec-ouvert S, Jabiru S and marabouts) but also the 7 species of “vultures” of the new world traditionally classified in the family of the cathartidés (Condor S, Urubu S and Sarcoramphe king).

The first are large waders (from 75 to 152 cm) with the long legs and nozzle; their neck is lengthened and sometimes thick. The seconds are Charognard S with the pace of Vautour S (but it is disadvised thus calling them because they are not close relatives).

Cosmopolitans, except for the Antarctic and of the major part of North America, they have greatest diversity in tropical area. They live in a variety of wetlands, but some species attend the grassy zones and the forests. One generally finds them in the hot continental areas.
