Cianjur

Mainstreet cianjur.JPG Cianjur is a provincial town Indonesia nne of Western Java, place chief of the Kabupaten (department) of the same name. It is located on the grand' road going from Jakarta, the captiale of Indonesia (located at 120  km in the North-West) and Bandung, the captiale of the province (with 60  km in the east). Its population is approximately 100.000 inhabitants.

History and culture

Cianjur was founded in 1677. Its first leader was the count R.A.A. Wiratanukusumah I, still called Dalem Cikundul.

Cianjur is the place where the art of the Tembang was created, vocal kind of music in which one sings poems telling the beauty of the country Sunda, size as of its kingdoms disappeared and exploits from its heroes.

Economy

The economic main activity of the area of Cianjur is agriculture, in particular Riz. Cianjur is known like the attic with rice of Western Java.
