Church Saint Nicolas\'s Day de Maule

the church Saint Nicolas's Day is a building of styles Romance and Gothic whose origin goes back to XIe century which is in the common Frenchwoman of Maule, in the Yvelines.

History

  • During antiquity, the current site of the church was then dedicated to the Jupiter worship.
  • the very first church of Maule goes back to the 12th century.
  • 1076 : The Benedictine S of Saint-Evroult of Normandy build the first Prieuré.
  • 13th century: construction of a low room.
  • 15th century: construction of the priory.
  • 1547 : the building is equipped with a Renaissance tower.
  • 19th century: it is restored.
  • 1883 : it is classified historic building.
  • 1938 : foundation of the museum Victor Aubert.
  • 1997 : creation of the cultural center of the priory.

The Notre-Dame priory

This whole of buildings of the 15th century, leant with the church surrounds a square court sheltering a thicket of flowers and bushes as well as the vestiges of Tombe S of the 1st century and a furnace bridge decorated. The histrien Ordéric Vital remained there at the 12th century. The interior is divided into several sections:
  • the Museum Victor Aubert: this founded municipal museum in 1938 by Victor Aubert (1874 - 1948), archeologist of the valley of Mauldre, accommodates the ancient and feudal vestiges of the valley of Mauldre as well as works folk of arts and popular traditions,
the first stage is intended for the Paléontologie, the Préhistoire, the Gallo-Roman time and the Moyen-âge, the ground floor is devoted to popular arts and at the time contemporary,
  • the municipal Bibliothèque,
  • the school of the fine arts of Maule installed in the roofs.
  • a room of temporary exhibition.

The brotherhood of Saint-Sebastien

It is known that Saint Sebastien, martyr, became the owner of the gunners to the crossbow to have been used as target to the archers of Dioclétien. The brotherhood of Saint-Sebastien who met during the old mode gathered of Maulois of all trades which lived in piety and the friendship. The festival of the village was held the day of the Saint-Sebastien, on January 20th. The statements of the brotherhood were preserved since 1667, the last one goes back to 1795.
