Church Saint-Maurice de Wrocław
Church St Maurice ( Kościół św. Maurycego ) located at 34 rue Traugutta with Wrocław - At the origin of Gothic architecture, composed of only one Nave with a vault of the 15th century and a bell-tower of style Baroque builds at the 18th century, according to the project of the architect J. Peintner. The first church St Maurice (probably out of wood) was built at the 12th century, by tisserands Wallon S, arrived on the grounds bordering on Wrocław now integrated into the city under the name of Rakowca. The church rebuilt out of stone was bénite in this same place in the year 1268. During the next century, the church was the center of the radiant religious worship to the close Polish villages.
The church, and in particular its bell-tower of style baroque going back to 1723, were damaged during the head office of Wrocław in 1757. After the restoration of the damage, important work of refitting was decided towards the end of the 19th century. Between 1897 and 1899 the church was appreciably increased - in the place of old the Presbytère was built a Transept, one added a news Sacristie, and in the east one rebuilt a new presbytery similar to old.
The church was preserved in this state until the Second world war. During the seat of the city (Festung Breslau - the fortress Breslau ) by the Red Army the church sudden with serious damage, destroying 60% of the building. The Orgue was destroyed by the flames as well as the bell-tower and part of the equipment of the church (fortunately were put out of danger the central furnace bridge going back to 1730, the side furnace bridges, the Chaire and the Baptismal font), the German army also melted (after requisition) the only remaining bell going back to 1618, into rubble fell also the Presbytère. In 1945 the priest of the parish of St Maurice was the priest Paul Peikert, he scrupulously annotated the facts of this time, which were then published under the title " Kronika dni oblężenia Wrocławia 22.I - 6.V.1945" ( Chronic of the days of the head office of Wrocław 22/01 - 5/6/1945 ).
The rebuilding of the church started with the installation of its new roof as of 1947, in 1948 one repaired the cupola and the interior of the church, in 1956 one rebuilds the presbytery, in 1960 its bell-tower. The roof was again renovated in 1967. One also installed three clocks on the bell-tower. During the period of restoration of the church one walled a piece of the skeleton of the hand of Aleksander Fredro (1793-1876), the piece was brought in the Seventies by professor Bogdan Zakrzewski (expert and in love with Fredro) of the tomb of the playwright (cemetery of the town of Rudki close to Lwow in Ukraine).
