Church Saint-Lambert of Grivegnée

The church Saint-Lambert of Grivegnée is an old church of convent with fathers oblats, today parties. Today, it is the most important parish church of the district inhabitant of Li2ege. It is located street of the beautiful wall.

History

Of style neogothic, the church was built in 1893 by the fathers oblats who had bought the old casino of the beautiful wall being just with dimensions. After a few years of occupation, the fathers oblats left the places in 1934. The building was then famous at the stage of parish church with the name of " Saint-Lambert" in memory of the Cathedral Our-Lady-and-Saint-Lambert of Liege. The old casino and the other installations of the convent as for them were destroyed. The church contains some treasures of the fathers oblats, like certain treasures of the demolished cathedral Saint-Lambert. These treasures nevertheless are seldom exposed, considering the church was often the target of robbers and vandals during the years '90 (what also brought the fact that one cannot any more visit it apart from the hours of worship).

Structure

The church is built on plan of Latin cross and is of style neogothic. The principal frontage, constuite hone some, are flanked of the two bell-towers in square plans and watch a harmonious symmetry. The main entrance, just like the approach of the building, are done frontally and centralized. On the frontage, the few openings planned for statues are empty. The nave, just like the chorus, are built them out of brick. Inside, one can admire the high flanked principal nave of two side aisles, lower. The play of the stones makes it possible to have a harmonious superposition of the colors. The stained glasses, as for them, unfortunately are very badly preserved: only some of the heart were saved glares of bombs at the time of the second world war. The others were replaced by simple panes.
