Biography
Chuck Schuldiner was born the May 13rd 1967 with Long Island, New York of a father of Jewish descent Autrichienne and of a South American mother. In 1968, its family leaves in Florida. Chuck was youngest of the three children: Frank, his/her older brother and Bethann, his sister. Schuldiner starts to play of the guitar at the 9 years age. His/her 16 year old brother have just killed themselves in an car accident, the parents of Chuck offer a guitar to him, hoping that will help it to overcome this test. It took lessons of traditional guitar during approximately a year but it did not like and stopped. His/her parents found then an electric guitar to sell at the time of a secondhand trade. The Chuck young person hung immediately with this instrument. He bought amplifiers and never stopped playing, writing and learning only. Schuldiner spent all the weekend in its garage or its room to be played on its guitar, but it was limited to three hours per day in school period. Schuldiner played for the first time as a public with the whole beginning of his adolescence. Its first influences were Iron Maiden, KIS and Billy Idol enter others. It was particularly interested by a movement metal known under the name of NWOBHM (New Wave off British Heavy Metal) and quoted many groups resulting from this scene as being its favorites. Slayer, Possessed and Metallica was other influence which it would apply later to its own group but according to his mother, Chuck liked all the musical currents except for the Country and of the Rap. He appreciated in particular the jazz and the classical music as well as the alternative British groups such as Lush.
Although Schuldiner was rather good at the school, the studies annoyed it and it ends up dropping, which he regretted later.
Schuldiner was also known to be openly opposite with the hard Drogues. That was reflected in many interviews like in a few pieces (in particular " Monstrosity" living room; in which it evokes a baby born cocaine addict because of consumption of his mother during the pregnancy). However Schuldiner was also a burning defender of the medicinal and entertaining use of the Cannabis.
Musical career
Schuldiner formed Death (Mantas in the beginning) in 1983. In January 1986, Schuldiner joined the Canadian group temporarily Slaughter with the guitar but turned over quickly to the formation of Death. There be several modifications in the composition of the group. However, with Chris Reifert, the first album of Death, heading Scream Bloody Gore, left in 1987. This album is regarded as being the precursor of vagueness Death metal. Schuldiner continued in 1988 with Leprosy finding for the occasion of the musicians who formed Mantas: the guitarist Rick Rozz, Terry Butler with low and Bill Andrews with the battery. In 1990, on Negro spiritual Healing, Rozz is made transfer and replace by James Murphy. After Healing Negro spiritual, Schuldiner stopped working with permanent members, preferring to invite musicians with the liking of the studios and concerts because of the bad relations which it had maintained with the preceding members Death. That been worth to him a reputation of perfectionist in the community of metal. Schuldiner also separated from its manager Eric Greif but again made call to him before the exit of its next and monumental album…
The album of the dedication for Death, Human, made it possible the group to evolve to a more technical and progressive style in which Schuldiner could express its talents of guitarist like never. It continued in this style (the success of the active group of par) with Individual Thought Patterns in 1993, Symbolic in 1995 and finally The Sound off Perseverance in 1998.
Schuldiner also played of the guitar on the album Jesus Killing Machine of the project Voodoocult left in 1994.
Schuldiner put a term at Death to off form a new group called Control Denied and left The Fragile Art Existence in 1999.
Dave Grohl also required of Schuldiner to belong to the many singers invited on his project of album Probot envisaged for 2001. Grohl went until organizing a campaign aiming at gathering funds to help Schuldiner to pay its medical expenses and to make look after its brain tumor. Schuldiner succumbed to the disease before this collaboration is not set up.
Its combat against cancer
In May 1999, Schuldiner felt a pain in top of the nape of the neck and thought that it was about a gripped nerve. He consulted a chiropractor then a kinesitherapist who recommended to him to pass a IRM. Schuldiner had not been mistaken for the gripped nerve, unfortunately it acted of the consequences of a tumor. The day of his birthday, the May 13rd, 1999, one diagnosed a gliome to him bridge (a type of cancer which infiltrates the cerebral trunk) and Schuldiner began the Radiothérapie immediately. In October 1999, the Schuldiner family announced that the tumor had necrosed and that Chuck was on the way of the cure. In January 2000, Schuldiner must have recourse to the surgery to be made withdraw what remained tumor. The operation was a success, however the Schuldiner family was in great financial problems. The total costs of the operations were assembled to nearly 70.000$, a price which the Schuldiner family did not have the means of paying. Many charity concerts and campaigns are reflected in place to help to cover the medical expenses. The money started to flow as the community of metal carried out the danger which threatened the life of Chuck Schuldiner and which it was likely to die because of a lack of money. The doctors who had withdrawn his tumor announced that the initial diagnosis was erroneous.
Schuldiner continued to work on its music, like on its project with Control Denied. Approximately two years after the first diagnosis, cancer repeated and Schuldiner fell sick again. One refused the surgery to him (which it needed immediately) for lack of money. A newspaper claimed the support of everyone, including other artists. Jane Schuldiner, revolted by the American health system, exhorted all those which had heard of the disease of Chuck to take an insurance health. Schuldiner accepted a treatment of chemotherapy called Vincristine. Like the majority of the drugs used in chemotherapy, the side effects were terrible and Schuldiner was found largely weakened. Been obstinated, Schuldiner fought. Towards the end of October or at the beginning of November, Schuldiner caught a pneumonia. He died on December 13rd, 2001 around 4 a.m. of after midday.
Its heritage
His/her mother, Jane Schuldiner, manage her heritage. It frequently interacts with its fans and declared many times that it appreciates its music. Beth, the sister of Schuldiner, seems to keep a trace of all its recordings. Beth has a son, Christopher, which plays of the guitar and kept all the guitars of Schuldiner except for one which is preserved by his/her mother.Although Schuldiner never married nor had children, he attended a woman, Kim, lasting of many years, it was his second long relation.
In spite of its disappearance, the heritage of Schuldiner continues to live through its fans and of its recordings. However, a legal battle is in hand about the rights concerning the second album of Denied Control which was only partly completed. Part of this not succeeded work left on compilation Zero Tolerance which gathers days before demonstrations of the Death group.
Religion
In interview given to magazine devoted to guitar, when it was asked to him whether it were necessary to see satanists influences in its compositions, it answered: " Not. At all. At all. I think that the religion is quelquechose of very personnel." Although he was the creator of the original logo of Death, he changed later the reversed cross which formed the " t" of Death for another, at the place, so that the fans and the critic can never bind the group to though is of “malefic”.

Material
Chuck played during the major part of its career on a B.C. Rich Stealth , a model very rare, available only via the " B.C. Rich Custom Shop". Before that, it used another B.C. Rich, the Mockingbird. The sound of Schuldiner came from a microphone DiMarzio X2N. During the round " (In) Human" (1991-1992), it briefly used a personalized guitar coming from a small firm of Wisconsin called Axxtra which worked with him on the design but it insisted to play on its B.C. Rich during the turning of video Lack off Comprehension in September 1991 in Orlando. The amplifier which it used towards the end of its career was composed of a head Marshall Valvestate and a box Valvestate 4x12. Previously, it used various equipment such as Randall amplifier, and on (In) Human turn off the world it used a small GK 250ML with a microphone, whereas it aligned piles of 4x12 on scene right " for the show".
