  • 1989 - X
  • 1988 - June 27th. France: Catastrophe with the Station of underground Suburbs of Paris-Lyon where a Train without brakes strikes another quay train, making 56 died and 56 wounded.
  • 1987 - May 30th. Europe: last day of circulation of the international trains TEE (Trans-Europ-Express train), except for four French TEE, the Jules Verne , the Gayant , the Faidherbe and the Kléber . Starting from the summer service 1987/88, beginning the following day May 31st, they are replaced for the majority by trains EuroCity.

  • 1898 - February 20th. Swiss: creation of the Swiss federal Railroads. They were instituted by a Loi, approved by a popular voting, which nationalized the five large private companies: railroad of the North-East (NOB), company of the Swiss exchange (SCB), railroad of Swiss Union VSB), Jura-Simplon (JS) and company of Saint-Gothard.
  • 1898 March 16th - inauguration of the Railroad Matadi-Léopoldville.

  • 1849 - Inauguration of the first harbor station in France: Calais.
  • 1848 - Startup of the first railway line of Spain. Barcelona-Mataró

  • 1846 - Publication of the Chaix booklet, first time indicator of the railroads. - July 8th, 1846 Catastrophe of Fampoux on the Paris-Lille line making 14 dead.
  • 1845 - Creation of the Company of North and Paris to Strasbourg.
  • 1844 - October 20th. France: Concession of the line of Railroad Amiens - Boulogne is allocated to Misters Charles Laffite, Blount & Co, for 98 years and 11 months, in the name of the Railroad company of Amiens-Boulogne .
  • 1843 - First international rail link Liege - Aachen
  • 1842 - April 11th. France: adoption of the “Relative law to the establishment of the broad outlines of railroads” which adopt the organization of the railroads out of star radiating around Paris, known under the name of “star of Legrand”. - May 4th, 1842 Catastrophe on the line of Versailles with Meudon making 55 dead of which the admiral Dumont d' Urville.
  • 1841 - Inauguration of the line Strasbourg - Basle, first European international line.

November 15th in France: startup of Saint-Bonnet-the-Oules - Andrézieux third section of the line Andrézieux - Roanne

April 3rd in France: startup of Lyon - Givors, second section of the Line Saint-Etienne-Lyon in France: startup of Balbigny - Saint-Bonnet-the-Oules, first section of the line Andrézieux - Roanne with 2 English engines.

October 1st in France: startup of the Grand Cross - Saint-Etienne third section of the Line Saint-Etienne-Lyon

- September 7th: Bohemian: startup of the first railway line of Austria and the second of Europe continentale.
- Startup of the Baltimore & Ohio, first railway line of the the United States

- the chief engineer of the mines of Saint-Etienne Pierre Michel Harvest-Desroches addresses to Napoleon 1st a report entitled: On the possibility of shortening the distances by furrowing the empire of seven great railways . This memory centered on Paris these seven railways. It will be taken again in 1838 by Baptiste Alexis Victor Legrand. It is the first to have written on the railroad in France.

  • 1812 - First engine with vapor built by English Matthew Murray and exploited by John Blenkinsop. Conceived to function with a rail with toothed rack, four other engines of this type were built.
