Antiquity

  • 491 av. J. - C. - Battle of Marathon, a messenger in the name of Philippidès ran to announce the victory with the inhabitants of Athens.
  • 40 av. J. - C. - Rome organizes Cursus publicus , the first true service of public mail.

5th century

  • 453 - Fall of the Roman Empire of 0ccident - the system of mail set up by the Romans disaggregates gradually.

  • 1850 January 1st - the Spain emits its first stamps.
  • 1851 - Emission of the first stamps of the Canada.
  • 1854 - With the the United Kingdom, first emission with Serration.

    • emission of the first postage-due stamps;
    • emission of the first stamp bound for the French colonies (eagle type).
