Chronology of the French television of the years 1980

The programs quoted below are indicated according to their year of appearance or first diffusion. They can however appear second once, in certain circumstances, like the change of main actor for a series, of presenter for an emission, with indication of this modification.
Notable events
- September 1982: Michel May is named president of TF1, Pierre Desgraupes of Antenne 2 and André Holleaux of FR3.
- January 1983: Introduction of publicity on FR3
- July 14th 1983: Herve Bourges replaces Michel May with the presidency of TF1, after its resignation.
- January 1984: Creation of TV5, French-speaking chain by satellite
- October 11th 1984: Jean-Claude Héberlé becomes president d' Antenne 2.
- November 4th 1984: Starting of Canal+, encrypted chain by subscription.
- December 1985: First ceremony of the Seven of gold
- February 20th 1986: Launching of Five, first French private general channel.
- March 1st 1986: Launching of TV6, private and free music channel.
- December 1986: Claude Contamine is named president d' Antenne 2 and Rene Han of FR3.
- February 28th 1987: Disappearance of TV6, due to the reallocation of the sixth network with M6.
- 1 {{er}} March 1987: Launching of M6 on the sixth network, to replace TV6.
- December 6th 1987: First Telethon
- October 1988: Launching of Planet, documentary chain on the cable.
