Chronology of Nepal
- About seventh century BC: date supposed installation from Kirata, dynasty Tibetan in the valley of Katmandou.
- 566 before J. - C - 466 before J. - C: life of Buddha (perhaps born in Lumbini in Nepal)
- 250 before J. - C: foundation of the town of Patan
- 400 - 750: the dynasty Lichhavi reign on the south of the Nepal and the north of the Magadha. Birth of Nepalese art.
- 1100 - 1484: the kings Malla control the west of the country.
- 1184 - 1196: reign of king Kama Deva of the dynasty of the Thakuri, founder of the town of Katmandou (Kantipur).
- 1200 - 1216: Arimalla, the first monarch of the Malla dynasty controls in the valley of Katmandou.
- 1349 : the Musulman S devastate the valley of Katmandou.
- 1382 - 1422: reign of king Jayastithi Malla.
- 1400 : king Jayastithi Malla introduces the system Hindou Caste S in Nepal. Buddhist Nepal hitherto hindouise.
- 1422 - 1427: reign of king Jyotir Malla.
- 1427 - 1480: reign of king Yashka Malla.
- 1480 : king Yashka Malla divides his kingdom between his sons.
- 1559 - 1570: reign of Dravya Shâh, founder of a kingdom Gurkha in a valley in the west of Katmandou. It is about Rajpout S which fled the Empire moghol.
- 1618 - 1661: reign of Siddhi Narsing in Patan.
- 1640 - 1673: reign of Pratapa Malla in Katmandou. First contacts with Europeans.
- 1696 - 1722: reign of Bhupatindra Malla in Bhadgaon (Bhaktapur).
- 1768 - 1722: reign of Prithivi Narayan, king Gurkha, founder of the Shah dynasty and unifier of Nepal.
- 1790 : Gurkha attack the Tibet.
- 1792 : the Chinese invade Nepal; treaty of Nawakot with China; Gurkha fight the British in the Teraï.
- 1815 : war anglo-Nepalese.
- 1816 : Nepalese defeat in front of the British; treated of Sagauli, the current borders of Nepal are fixed.
- 1846 : the Prime Minister Jung Bahadur Rana seizes the capacity which becomes hereditary. The king preserves only one role of representation.
- 1850 : first visit of a statesman Nepalese, Jung Bahadur, in England and France.
- 1854 : war with Tibet.
- 1857 : Nepal brings its assistance to the British during the Révolte of Cipayes.
- 1949 : Nepal starts to open the abroads.
- 1950 : the king Thibuvan takes refuge in India.
- 1951 : king Thibuvan puts an end to the Rana dictatorship.
- 1953 : first rise of the Everest, the May 29th
- 1955 - 1972: reign of the king Mahendra.
- 1959 : promulgation of the first pluralist constitution
- 1960: king Mahendra prohibits all the parties and rejects the constitution
- 1972: the king Birendra reaches the throne.
- 1975 : crowning of king Birendra.
- 1980 : king Birendra announces a referendum after riots for a choice between the system panchayat or the multi-party system.
- 1989 : the king declares that the prohibition of the political parties is raised, that it lets the opposition direct a provisional government and that it accepts the role of constitutional monarch.
- 1991 : first free elections since 32 years. The party of the Nepalese Congress carries it with 110 seats, the Communist party of the Leninist Marxist Nepal-Union (CPN- UML) obtains 69 seats.
- 1996 : beginning of the War of the Nepalese People.
- 1999 : Krishna Prasad Bhataharai is named Prime Minister.
- 2001 : the crown prince Dipendra assassinates all his family and commits suicide. His/her uncle, Gyanendra, unpopular, is crowned king.
- 2002 : Gyanendra dissolves the Parliament and assumes the full powerss. The movement of revolt against the king becomes extensive, constant by the opposition parties. Belgium sells weapons in Nepal
- 2006: large a general strike is started on April 6th. The pressure of the street then makes fold the king, who re-establishes the Parliament in his rights (the April 24th). The Parliament votes at once in the weeks which follow a series of laws removing of many royal prerogatives, as well as the character crowned of the monarchy which is then put in deferment.
- 2007 : composition of a new transition government. This government, includes/understands five ministers belonging to the ex-guerilla Maoist.
