- 18 June 1940 : Call of June 18th and foundation of the French Committee of the national Release, founding document of the free France, by Charles de Gaulle.

- 1st July 1940 : The French government settles with Vichy.
- 3 July 1940 : Battle of Seas el Kebir. The French fleet is destroyed by Royal Navy.
