Chronicles of Krondor

the Chronicles of Krondor is a saga of Fantasy of the writer Raymond Elias Feist whose publication started in 1982. The original title of the saga is The Riftwar Saga ( the War of the Fault ). It was translated into French under the name of the Chroniques of Krondor and is thus from now on better known under this name. It comprises four volumes.

Presentation of work

The action proceed mainly in the universe of Midkémia directed by king Rodric de Rillanon, and prince Erland de Krondor. Nevertheless, a disconcerting history of temporal Fault and enemy invasion will come to upset the fragile balance of this medieval world.

The originality of this saga still lies during the broad time that it covers, of the adolescence of the characters, until their marriage and even the life of their own children…

Novels of the Trilogy

Magician

He was published for the first time in 1982 and constitutes the first book of the bibliography Feist ienne . He will lead obviously to a whole series of books taking as decoration the world of Midkémia.

Originally reduced cuts some by the editor, it was republished, and, because of new notoriety of the author, the removed parts were restored. Magicien thus breaks up into two volumes: Pug the apprentice and Milamber the magus.

Summary

Magicien describes the adventures of an young man named Pug and of his/her friend Tomas for the period of the War of the Fault. Quickly, of the invaders come from another world known under the name of Kelewan discuss Midkemia thanks to gates interdimensionnels, faults. The invaders, of the warriors resulting from people known under the name of Tsuranis then start a war which will last more than 9 years and which will leave its name in the history like Guerre of the Fault .

Pug and Tomas will remain together during first half of the book, but are unfortunately separate the day when Pug is removed by Tsuranis warriors then sent during several years like slave on their planet of origin. Tsuranis end up discovering that it has without its knowledge of the magic capacities and thus decide to teach the higher magic to him, it will undergo an intense formation and will be famous Milamber, its new name Kelewanais.

After having tried to be done with the Tsurani culture, Pug will end up realizing that this world is well too different from that which rocked its childhood and it will end up returning on Midkemia; it will play there a determining role in the destruction of the Fault. Divided into volumes on its side will discover a magic armor which will gradually transform it into Ashen-Shugar, warrior of the olden days, the race of the Valherus which were Masters of the world a long time before being decimated hand even of the Gods. It will become increasingly powerful and will be linked with the queen of the elves of Elvandar Aglaranna.

The third protagonist, Arutha conDoin, wire of the duke Borric conDoin, will travel to the capital of the kingdom in order to gather the army necessary to the victory against Tsuranis. He will discover that the current King, Rodric the fourth, became insane and flees the war against Tsuranis. After the victory and the closure Fault, Lyam, brother of Arutha, will replace Rodric on the throne, while Arutha itself will endorse the statute of prince and will become regent of all the Western part of the kingdom.

The novel covers one 14 years period, and recuts certain events of the Trilogy of the Empire Co-written with Janny Wurts.

Silverthorn

A new capacity malefic, able to awake deaths and to make them fight against the alive ones, threat new prince de Krondor, Arutha. Whereas an assassin poisons his wife mortally, Anita, the day of their weddings, Arutha will have to travel to the borders of the kingdom in the grounds of the Moredhel S, in order to bring back the only antidote known to the terrible poison which corrodes Anita, Silverthorn. Continuation of Magician , Silverthorn centres us on the universe of Midkémia following the war of the fault while proposing to us to follow Jimmy the Hands Sharp, become lord James de Krondor, new rider of Arutha, Laurie Ménestrel, and of course, Arutha.

Darkness on Sethanon

Ténèbres on Sethanon describes how Murmandamus, new black prince Moredhel; direct the forces of darkness and invades the kingdom with an aim of finding Pierre of Vie, an old artefact able to destroy any form of life on old ground and to bring back Valherus on their native soil: Midkemia.

Only Pug and Thomas have the sufficient capacities to be opposed to Murmandamus. Arutha, for its part, will pretend its death so accompanying them incognito in the Scandinavian regions, with the meeting of their larger enemy.

Raymond E. Feist wrote of another books around the universe of Midkémia:

Nouvelles Chronicles of Krondor comprises two volumes of which the first of unrolls 20 years after the War of the Fault, and the second 7 years later.

the War of the Snakes comprises four of them. The action occurs after the second opus from the New Chronicles from Krondor

the Trilogy of the Empire is held simultaneously with the War of the Fault and the New Chronicles of Krondor.

the Legacy of the Fault consisted of four volumes (whose volume 4 is not appeared yet in France) is a saga which is located (for the first opus) 9 years after Ténèbres on Sethanon and 11 years before Prince de Sang
