Chronicle of the reign of Charles IX

Chronique of the reign of Charles IX is a novel of Prosper Mérimée.

In 1572, during one short period of peace of the wars of religion, Bernard de Mergy, noble protesting, goes to Paris and meets there his/her brother, Georges, convert with Catholicism. In love with a noble catholic, it tries to allure it and conquer the regard of the king, but cannot make forget its religion in this time of intolerance. Chronique of the reign of Charles IX is an indictment against religious intolerance and the fratricidal fights of this time in France (with the clean direction since Mergy ends up fighting against his/her brother at the end of the novel).
