Chromatic Semitone
In the Musical theory, the chromatic semitone indicates a category of Demi-ton pertaining to the diatonic scale amplified - i.e., the chromatic scale -, and located between two notes of the same name (example: “ do-do ”).
-
It is called thus because, just like the Demi-ton diatonic, it is practically equal to half of the your.
-
It is defined as the distance enters a degree diatonic naturalness and the same degree moved towards the serious or the acute by means of a deterioration. It is also the interval which, added to the Demi-ton diatonic, transforms the latter into your, that is to say, like the interval which, cut off with the your, transforms the latter into semitone diatonic.
-
the chromatic scale contains five chromatic semitones and seven semitones diatonic.
-
the chromatic semitone is the interval ranging between two close notes, of identical names but of height S different. One of the two notes delimiting the chromatic semitone - the intermediate note - is a sound of which the initial height was modified by means of a deterioration. The chromatic semitone is thus obtained artificially, contrary to the semitone diatonic, which him, exists in a native state in the not amplified diatonic scale.
-
the tone, the semitone diatonic and the chromatic semitone, are the basic intervals, the joint intervals, which by addition, makes it possible to obtain all the other intervals: third, quad, fifth, etc the chromatic semitone corresponds very precisely to the interval of unison increased, although this name is used little.
-
In this fragment of chromatic scale, the accodances indicate tons them. The semitones diatonic are left blank. The intermediate notes appearing between brackets, are faded notes.
-
Note:: the chromatic semitone can be either smaller or larger than the semitone diatonic. Cf - -
