Christophore
The antipape Christophore (or Christophe ) reigned of August 903 at January 904.
Romain of origin, cardinal-priest of Saint-Damask, it deposits of force the pope Leon V in 903, and the fact of throwing in prison. With died of this last, a little later it is made elect pope. It itself is driven out by the future pope Serge III. He would have died shortly after strangled in his prison, or would have finished his days like simple Moine, according to the tradition.
Its authenticity as pope was a subject of debate a long time: it appears in the Liber pontificalis ; its portrait takes seat among the canonical popes on the frescos of the Basilique Saint-Paul-out-the-walls.
