Christophe Thivrier

Christophe Thivrier was born with Durdat-Larequille in the Allier on May 16th 1841, it dies on August 8th 1895 with Commentry, in the same department. At the 10 years age he is miner. Thereafter, it will occupy the occupations of building contractor, oilcan, baker, merchant of wine, all his trades being used to demolish influence of the company of the mines which tried to make conceal the labor movement being born. It was recipient of Marianne (secret society which tried to unify the working claims in the illegality, trade unions being prohibited).

It is elected city council man of Commentry in 1874 on a republican list. Elected official mayor of Commentry on June 6th, 1882, he becomes the first socialist mayor in the world.

Elected official appointed in 1894, it presents himself to the National Assembly in the blue blouse of the workmen bourbonnais thus respecting the commitment entered into in front of the minors of Bézenet and refused to pose it under the injunctions of the ushers, rétorquant to them: " When the abbot Lemire poses his cassock, when the general of Gallifet his uniform, I leave will pose my blouse of workman ".

He will be made exclude temporarily from the Parliament to have shouted " Lives the Commune ". He is the father of two mayors of Commentry: Alphonse and Isidore Thivrier.
