Christophe Moyreau
Christophe Moyreau was a organist and Clavecin active ist with Orleans at the XVIIIe century.
One knows few details on the life of this musician. Its family was established of very long time in Orleans; he would have died in 1772 or 1774. He was named titular organist of the Cathédrale Holy-Cross of Orleans towards 1732, which locates its birth, at the latest, towards 1710.
Its known production consists of five books of parts of harpsichord all published in 1753, gathering each one between 18 and 26 parts: it is thus probably about a compilation of made up works during enough a long period. The adopted forms are very varied compared to the French production of the time: continuations with dance tunes or parts of character to the evocative names, Concerto S, Sonata S, sinfonies, openings…
Moyreau belongs to these type-setters whose only one specimen of works was preserved, avoiding the complete lapse of memory of very little (see also Nicolas Siret, another provincial musician). However these parts are of a great quality and original inspiration: they can be measured with those of more known contemporaries, such Corrette Duphly or Balbastre.
The chronicle retains that it published a Petit summary of the principles of music by requests and answers , now lost; what lets think that Moyreau could exert functions of professor.
