Christkindel
In Alsace, the “ Christkindel ”, the Jesus child personified by an young girl very of white vêtue and capped with a veil, appear the evening of Christmas.
Historians affirm that the “Christkindel” is the deformation of the festival of the Sainte Lucie - young girl vêtue of white with a crown of candles - which took place the December 23rd before the reform of the Gregorian Calendrier in 1582.
The reformed Church would have set up the “Christkindel” to make during with Saint Nicolas celebrated by the catholics. At all events, the “Christkindel” is integrated into the Alsatian tradition, and as the Baroness of Oberkirch in her memories in notes it 1875: “Christkindel always appears and the gifts also”.
