Christine of Sweden
Christine of Sweden (Kristina Vasa) , born the December 18th 1626 with Stockholm, dead the April 19th 1689 with Rome, queen of Sweden of 1632 with 1654. Also known like the Queen Christine .
Single child of Gustave II Adolphe and Marie-Éléonore (girl of the Voter of Brandebourg Jean III Sigismond de Hohenzollern), it is high like a boy. His/her father finds death with the battles of Lützen in 1632, whereas it is only six years old. She goes up then on the throne, under the supervision of the chancellor Axel Oxenstierna, very qualified Swedish Richelieu.
Major in 1644, the Christine queen is opposed chancellor quickly. She puts an end to certain armed conflicts. The peace of Westphalia, signed in 1648, made of Sweden, by the possession of two banks of the Baltic first Scandinavian power. Crowned in 1650, it voluntarily gives up its throne in 1654 and abdicates in favor of his/her cousin on June 6th, 1654. The crown of Sweden then leaves the Dynastie of Vasa, which dies out with it (it died without children).
After its abdication, she travels in various parts of the Europe, in particular in Italy. She spends some time in France where she is suspected of the murder of Monaldeschi, her rider and her favorite (1657), then fixes herself at Rome, where she dies in 1689. In 1674 it creates the Accademia reale , with Rome, equivalent of the French Academy.
This girl of one of the Protestant champions of the Guerre Thirty Year old converts with Catholicism shortly after her abdication, in 1654. She shows herself however moved in 1686 by the fate of the Protestants of France, who must undergo the policy of forced conversions carried out by the royal capacity. She criticizes the dragonnades more particularly. Of very open spirit, feminist before the hour, it is a woman very cultivated and very sporting for the time. She writes books and discusses with many scientists of which Blaise Pascal and Rene Descartes. She speaks several languages including French, language of the European elite of the time. She makes come in Sweden many foreign personalities, which finishes by him attracting the lightnings of the Swedes.
Tormented by the need for God, it becomes very believing and ascetic like Pascal. Its body rests with the the Vatican in the Basilique Saint-Pierre.
It left some writings which for the majority were collected in the Mémoires of Johann Archenholz, Amsterdam, 1751 - 1759, 4 volumes in-4.
The Queen Christine of Sweden and her chancellor Axel Oxenstierna launched in 1645 the newspaper Post- och Inrikes Tidningar or PoITen intended to allow the leaders to justify the liftings of funds allocated with the financing of the 30 year old war against the Saint Worsens Germanic. He was in December 2006 the oldest newspaper having an edition paper.
