Christine Gouze-Renal
Christine Gouze-Renal is a producing Frenchwoman born with Mouchard the December 30th 1914 and deceased with Paris the October 25th 2002.
She is the first French woman to venture in the production of films for the cinema, as of the years 1950, and for television as from the years 1970.
Of its true name Madeleine Gouze, it is resulting from a academic world. After having obtained a license of history of art, it enters to the academy of music of Paris. When the war of 1939 bursts, she works with the Ministry of Labor and carries out, in parallel, an intense clandestine activity in the Résistance. At the end of the war, it becomes particular executive secretary of Henri Frenay and François Mitterrand (his brother-in-law since 1944, by marrying his/her younger sister Danielle Gouze) before becoming mission leader in Latin America. It will be also Co-director of the Institut of the high cinematographic studies, founded in 1943 by Marcel the Herbarium.
On its return to the beginning of the year 1950, it gives up its administrative career and is devoted to the cinema. In 1956, it founds its production company, Progefi. It produces films of Brigitte Bardot ( the bride is too beautiful, Private life, the Woman and the puppet …). She works with many realizers, such as Jean Valère ( the Sentence ), Henri Verneuil ( the one night Business ), Jean Delannoy ( Homosexual relationships ), Claude Chabrol ( the Tiger likes the fresh flesh, the Tiger is scented with dynamite ), Edouard Molinaro ( Consents softest, the irony of fate ), Roger Hanin ( the Guard, Rumba, Train of hell ), Jacques Demy ( a room downtown ). It will produce, throughout its career, about fifty films to the cinema.
From the years 1970, it starts Co-to produce for television. As it did for its films, it plays the chart of quality and pleasing on the small screen of the realizers like Claude Chabrol or Edouard Molinaro. It will adapt works of Colette with the series of the Claudine, Emile Zola, Stendhal, Maupassant, Balzac, Zweig, Sagan… Its work of production on television share of the report that to the beginning of the year 1970, " 70% of the spectators remain in front of the small screen to see films " and qu'" with less than 500.000 entries in rooms, one cannot cover the frais". The quality of its work is worth to him to receive, in 1985, a César of honor for the whole of its career placed under the sign of the defense and the promotion of films to the cinema and on television. As a first French producing woman, it was called " Madam the producteur" , with the masculine, for better asserting its place. It was one of rare producing to have " marié" the cinema and television, as the success of " shows it; The confusion of the sentiments" of Stefan Zweig, diffused in 1979 (12 million televiewers), before going on the screens of the cinemas.
It was also member of the jury of the Cannes festival in 1970. It is one of the founding members of the company Unifrance.
It is also the wife of Roger Hanin (1958), of which it produced several films.
She died on October 25th, 2002.
