Christians in university
Chrétiens in university is an association of law 1901 which gathers the Christian communities of the French universities. It aims to allow to the students these schools to practice and share their faith in the particular context in which they live. Association gathers 80 communities, gathering approximately 3000 students in all the coeds cities of France. It belongs to the national service for the evangelization of the young people, school and student (SNEJSE) of the Conférence of the bishops of France.
It organizes each year a national meeting which gathers a thousand of students, one weekend of formation on a topic chosen by the national council of association.
History
Created in 1985, network CGE finds actually its roots in movements much older. The principal stages of its existence are the following ones:- 1892: creation of the Union of the catholic students, which gathers some school Parisian;
- 1922: creation of the first association of national scale, the French federation of the catholic students (FFEC), which gathers approximately thirty schools.
- 1947: after the creation of the JEC (youth Christian coed), appearance of the ACGE, the catholic action of the universities.
- 1967 - 1980: the ACGE becomes the MCGE, movement of the Christians in university.
- 1985: the MCGE becomes an association, which takes the name of CGE.
