Christiana Thorpe
Christiana Ayoka Mary Thorpe is a personality of Sierra Leone, born in August 1958.
With the length of its varied career, it occupied the post of minister of the Education (Secretary off State) of 1994 to 1996, and chairs since April 2005 the Independent electoral commission charged to supervise the presidential and parliamentary elections summer 2007 which finished without major incident and were qualified success of the democracy by the foreign observers.
The impartiality of Christiana Thorpe and the way in which it organized the poll well gained to him the respect of all the political parties, of the presidential majority like opposition: she indeed did not hesitate to refuse the requests for boundary changes presented by the majority party, nor to recall the rules to the radio of the All People' S Congress, principal party of opposition, which had launched out in rather irresponsible propaganda campaigns.
Christiana Thorpe grew between Kroo Bay and Kroo Town Road, that is to say in one of the poorest districts of the capital, Freetown. As of its youths, it organized courses for its small neighbors not-provided education for in order to transmit knowledge to them which it had learned at the school.
During a score of years, she lived with the convent, before leaving the orders " with much of regret, but with an aim of achieving still more choses".
Christiana Thorpe also took part in the creation (in 1995) of the section sierra-léonaise of the Forum of the African teachers, whom it governed its beginnings.
In another field, it held during three years the national record of the 300m in race on foot.
