Reign
Crisis of Easter
In April 1920, Christian X of Denmark of the Crisis of Easter, perhaps was the instigator most decisive in the evolution of Danish monarchy at the XXème century. The main cause was the bursting of a conflict between the king and the cabinet during the reunification of the septentrional Schleswig to the Denmark, old Danish stronghold lost with the profit of the Prussia at the time of the first war of Schleswig (February 1st 1864 - October 30th 1864). Denmark asserted this area of 1864 with 1918, the defeat of the Germans made it possible to settle this disagreement. According to the terms of the treated of Versailles (June 28th 1919), two plebiscites were to rule on the fate of Schleswig; one in septentrional Schleswig (today Jutland of the south in Denmark), the other in the center of Schleswig (today part of the German State). No plebiscite was planned for Schleswig of the South dominated by a German ethnic majority. At the end of the First World War it made party of the German State.
In the North of Schleswig 70% of the voters voted in favor of the reunification with Denmark and 25% voted for the Germany. In this vote, the whole of Schleswig of North was regarded as an indivisible whole, totality was allotted to Denmark (1919). In the center of Schleswig, the situation was opposite, 80% of the voters were favorable to Germany and 20% to Denmark. In this vote, each municipality decided on its own future, a large majority of Germans populated the whole of the center of Schleswig.
During the German occupation during the Second world war, Christian X remains in his capital among its people. Although septuagénaire, it traverses each day the city with horse. He is opposed firmly to discriminatory measurements of the Nazis with regard to the population Jew of Denmark and threat the Germans to be the first citizen to carry yellow star if the port were imposed to the Jews by it.
