Christian Klien
Christian Klien (born the February 7th 1983 with Hohenems, Austria) is a racing driver Austrian. Present in the championship of the world of Formula 1 between 2004 and 2006, he is currently the pilot tester of the stable Honda.
Biography
Christian begins his training with karting then passes in Formula BMW s.t.o.l Juniors in 1999. He gains four races of this category and finishes fourth with the classification of the season. The Austrian pilot then joined the edition senior of the category BMW s.t.o.l with the Rosberg stable. After one season of adaptation (10th over the season), it removes five races in 2001, finishing third over the season. Christian joined then the Renault Formula in Germany. He gains four races, gains the championship of Germany while taking down a third place in the championship of Europe (2002). In 2003, Klien reaches the new championship of Formule 3 Euroseries, within the stable Mucke Motorsport. It gains four races and finishes second over the season. Moreover, it is essential out-championship on the Masters de Zandvoort de Formule 3.Protected from the firm Red Bull, it reaches the Formule 1 as of 2004, at Jaguar Racing, then sponsored by Austrian energy drink. Clearly dominated by its Australian fellow-member Mark Webber, it pays its lack of experience to this high level of the competition. But its progress at the end of the season (with in particular its first points at the time of the Grand Prix of Belgium the August 29th 2004) enables him to preserve its wheel for the following season, while following the repurchase of Jaguar for Red Bull, the stable takes the name of Red Bull Racing.
In 2005, Klien must however occasionally yield its wheel to the Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi, the third pilot of the stable, punctually promoted titular in its place. In spite of that, Klien confirms its constant progress by often taking ascending of pure speed on its tested fellow-member David Coulthard. But in race, it does not show same constancy as the Scot.
Always at Red Bull in 2006, it marks a point at the beginning of season then another with the Grand Prix of Germany, but sorrow to be imposed like a major actor of Formula 1. Implied in three important fixings, regularly dominated by Coulthard (which offers to Red Bull the first podium of its history with Monaco although initially promised has Christian), Klien loses finally the confidence of its employer who announces his replacement by Mark Webber for the season 2007.
