Christian Huitema

Christian Huitema , born on January 13rd, 1953 with Nantes, was of April 1993 in July 1995, the first president not-American of the IAB (Internet Architecture Board).

Biography and work

Expenses émoulu of the Polytechnic school (France), Christian Huitema between for five years as engineer in the company SOWED with Montrouge before returning to the National center of studies of telecommunications to Issy-les-Moulineaux. In 1986, it joined the National research institute in data processing and automatically (INRIA) and its center of Sophia-Antipolis in the French network-valley. It collaborates in it in various research projects among which:
  • project NADIR (jointly with the Hundred) intended to study the “data-processing” use of the telecommunications satellites,
  • the project SPIRIT THORN which constitutes one of the first implementation of the standard of Annuaire distributed X.500,

and directs until 1996 the RODEO project (become PLANET) which aims defining and at trying out communication protocols for networks with Très high banc, in Gbit/s or more. This project thus made it possible to show in 1994 qu ' it was possible to make videocommunication on the Internet (thanks to system Ventura SYSTRAN Interface of videoconference on IP based on the protocol H.261).

It also ensures of the courses the University of Computer sciences, ESSI of the University of Nice - Sophia Antipolis.

Member of the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) of 1991 to 1996, Christian Huitema is the first president not-American of April 1993 in July 1995.

In 1996, Christian Huitema expatriate with (ÉUA) to work itself in the laboratories like “ Chief Scientist ”. There, it takes part in research on the Téléphonie and the Quality of service on the Internet.

Christian Huitema joined the company Microsoft in February 2000 as an architect of the group “Communications and networks of Windows” initially, before directing the team “Wireless networking and mobility” of the editor of Redmond, Washington where he works inter alia with the integration of technologies UWB, Wimax and of the networks with Topologie Mesh in the operating system of the editor.
