Christian Dotremont
Christian Dotremont , (Tervuren, Belgium, 1922 - 1979), is a painter and Belgian poet, famous for his Logogramme S.
Born in a family from catholic well-read men, it was raised by the Jesuits. Into Paris it integrates the surrealist circle , then sets out again with Brussels where it takes part in the creation of Belgian revolutionary surrealism in 1947. In 1948, it takes part in the foundation of the group CoBrA of which it is one of the founding members as an initiator and a theorist of his approach " révolutionnaire" Article.
Its Logogramme S, by which poetry is improvised through the graphic design are true Poème S to be looked at.
Dotremont proposes “to see” the writing more than of the lira. It is besides about a writing exaggerated and free expressing “its cry” and/or “its song” and in all the cases he proposes his plaintext under the logogramme.
The CoBrA movement dissolves as of 1951, because of a share of dissensions and competitions, and in addition of the disease of the two promoters, Jorn and Dotremont; thus, Cobra, true laboratory of artistic experiments, will be used then for the blossoming of individualities. However Christian Dotremont, organizer, theorist, commentator and general secretary of the movement during his three years of existence, will remain for the members of the group a bond between them. Its ideas will influence the Internationale situationnist.
The funds “Christian Dotremont” was deposited with IMEC.
