Christ stopped in Eboli ( Cristo if E fermato has Eboli ) is a Franco-Italian film carried out by Francesco Rosi in 1979, with Gian Maria Volontè in the main role. It is the adaptation of the Romance éponyme of Carlo Levi telling, in the fascistic Italy, the exile of an opponent in a lost village of Lucanie.
Synopsis
Inspired of the Autobiographical novel of Carlo Levi, this film tells the life of a doctor and writer Antifasciste placed under house arrest starting from 1935. Any activity is prohibited to him, including exerting medicine. He discovers the country world, far from the intellectual circles. It will be released at the end of two years after having conquered the regard of the poor peasants of the area.
