A axe is a Outil made of a blade of Métal (of Acier generally) attached to a handle of Bois. It is generally used to cut wood, but it was also employed as Arme. The firemen use it sometimes to open doors.

Origin

The origin of the axe is more or less dated from thousand-year-old VIIe front J. - C., i.e. with the Mesolithic , in Europe. The Indo-European name proto to say " hache" could be pelek' U , giving the Greek πέλεκo (pelekos) and the Sanskrit parashu .

The first axes were made of a cut stone inserted between two tight planks of wood one against the other with a cord, which was also used to make hold the blade in place. Most recent are made of a bored blade where one makes pass the handle.

A weapon

The axe is also used as a weapon of close combat. More difficult to handle than a sword because of the weight and the lack of balance (indeed, a sword is somewhat balanced by its pommel), the axe allows however strike more powerful. The small franques axes of jet, the francisques ones, were axes with double edge. The axes could also be launched but they were in this case smaller and lighter. The weight of an axe is on average of 2 kilos
