Choke
Choke is a novel of Chuck Palahniuk published in 2001.
Synopsis
He tells the history of Victor Mancini, former medical student and sexoolic. This one, works in a " museum vivant" , in other words a counterpart of city of the XVIIIe where each appear with a role to be played. It is in this environment, where each anachronistic element is liable to sanction, which it can find each day his best friend, Denys, follower of the pilori. Haunted constantly by its phantasms (which it puts into practice) it surveys the meetings of sexoolic anonymities, to have sexual relationships as much that to cure itself. The life of Victor turns primarily around his mother, patient and interned in a hospital, which he hates all while liking it. Nevertheless, its many visits will bring finally satisfaction to him when it meets Paige, attractive " woman docteur" who wants more than all in the world to make him a child. Another passion of Victor: to choke themselves in the restaurants and to give a direction to the life of its " sauveurs". Victor not being therefore a large heart, it regularly swindles these people in their asking for money.
Course and end of the history
The life of Victor does not cease tumbling down: Denys, once returned of its work, is seen animating of a passion for the stones, which leads it to build with the son of the days, a building which unfortunately will be destroyed. On its side, Paige Marshall, proves to be only one patient moreover in the sordid hospital of Mrs. Mancini. On his side, Victor finally succeeded in living what he played since always: its smothering. Lastly, suspense of the book, is Victor really the new Jesus? What gives the translation of the diary of his/her mother? The answer, as obvious as it is, is in the final chapters.

Between enumeration of psychiatric pathologies, and description of the life of sexoolique, Chuck Palahniuk transports us in another universe that ours.
