Chock

The chock is a piece of wood, used in bottom of Cale dries to support the skittle and the sides of a Navire in construction or Radoub. To balance the pressures, the chocks are placed at equal distance from/to each other, thus constituting a Ligne of chocks. Wood while being crushed makes it possible not to damage the hull.

In order to be able to work with breast height under the hull of the ship, the line of chocks is elevated on metal parts (block). One also finds several lines of chocks, depend on the width of the ship. (see example in image).

The lines of chocks are laid out precisely according to the size of the ship supposed to be posed there. A plunger checks the good position compared to the chocks before the draining of the Dry dock.
