The chlorites (ClO2-) are salts of the chlorous acid. It is also one of the components of the sand of the type 2 (0,47%).

The presence of the ions chlorites in the water of consumption is related to the use of the chlorine dioxide.
Generally they come from the reduction of the chlorine dioxide by the organic compounds of water during the treatments of disinfection finale.
Le chlorite are suspecté to cause anemia in the young children and can affect the nervous system.
